Central Medical Laboratories, which currently operates as a division of Gamma-Dynacare, is established in Winnipeg, Manitoba.
Dr. O. Casullo opens GammaBiopath Laboratory to provide services to his medical building. The laboratory soon expands into diagnostic imaging and computerized health assessment services, and opens patient services centres in the Greater Toronto, Hamilton and Stoney Creek areas of Ontario.
London Biochemistry Reference Laboratory is founded by Dr. D.S.M. Haines. The lab was originally called London Biochem Specialists and was located at the corner of Wortley Road and Tecumseh in London, Ontario. London Biochem offered a wide range of specialized tests that previously had been performed mainly in California and the lab soon began to receive requests for testing from across Ontario.
Bio-Science Laboratory, now part of the Gamma-Dynacare Medical Laboratories partnership, is founded in Windsor, Ontario.
Growing demand for its services creates the need for larger premises and London Biochemistry Reference Laboratory moves to the laboratory’s present location at 245 Pall Mall Street in London.
GammaBiopath is acquired by Mr. Avrum Silver, who expands the business by opening new medical centres throughout Ontario.
GammaBiopath purchases North Peel Laboratory in Brampton, Ontario. The laboratories merged the following year to become Gamma North Peel Laboratory, moving into a new 24,000-square-foot facility at 1214 Lawrence Avenue West in Toronto. The laboratory soon became a reference centre for anatomic pathology and cytology testing.
Dynacare Laboratories is established with the acquisition by The Dynacare Health Group of its first laboratory,
Quality Medical Laboratories.
Dynacare Laboratories grows to become one of Ontario’s largest laboratory service providers through the acquisitions of several laboratory companies, including London Biochemistry Reference Laboratory, Douglas Laboratory Services, Kopp Clinical Laboratory, Kipling Medical Laboratories, Elixir Medical Laboratories and
Park-Med Laboratories.
Gamma North Peel moves to a new 48,000-square-foot facility at 300 Supertest Avenue in North York, Ontario. The company expands with the acquisition of Parwood Laboratories, further increasing its client base and testing volumes.
Dynacare Laboratories opens a 68,000-square-foot laboratory at 115 Midair Court in Brampton, Ontario, consolidating its Toronto-area laboratory operations into the new state-of-the-art facility.
Dynacare Inc. enters the United States market, growing its US operating presence by the year 2000 to include 19 central laboratories and 149 Patient Services Centres in 17 states.
Gamma-Dynacare Medical Laboratories is formed through a partnership between Dynacare Laboratories, Gamma North Peel Partnership Inc. and Bio-Science Laboratory (Ontario) Limited.
LabCorp acquires Dynacare Laboratories, becoming the majority shareholder of Gamma-Dynacare Medical Laboratories. LabCorp is publicly traded on the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE: LH). A pioneer in commercializing new diagnostic technologies and the first in its industry to embrace genomic testing, LabCorp is one of the world’s leading medical laboratories.
In recognition of its technical achievements, customer service, quality, employee programs and excellence in business leadership, Gamma-Dynacare is awarded the Outstanding Business Achievement Award by the City of Brampton and the Brampton Board of Trade.
Gamma-Dynacare opens a new 28,000-square-foot diagnostic testing facility in the Ottawa Life Sciences Technology Park. The state-of-the-art facility features the most advanced laboratory technology and robotics and includes a Level 3 classified laboratory specializing in bacteriology.
Gamma-Dynacare is named Company of the Year by the Greater Ottawa Chamber of Commerce.
Gamma-Dynacare expands its operations to Saskatchewan, becoming the exclusive provider of community laboratory specimen collection and transportation services, as well as procurement services for laboratory supplies, to the Saskatoon and Regina Qu’Appelle Health Regions.
Gamma-Dynacare expands to Quebec with the acquisition of LDS Diagnostic Laboratories, a full-service private clinical laboratory serving the Montreal Island community for more than 38 years. Its main laboratory in Pointe-Claire, and Patient Centres throughout the Montreal area, are well respected for their quality of service and accuracy of testing results, offering Gamma-Dynacare a solid foundation for growth in the province of Quebec.
Gamma-Dynacare is selected by the Government of New Brunswick to conduct a major independent review of more than 21,000 pathology cases handled by local hospitals between 1997 and 2007. Conducted by a team of pathologists at our Ottawa laboratory, the review provided valuable assistance to clinicians and their patients in New Brunswick, delivering information to contribute towards appropriate healthcare and health-related decisions.
Gamma-Dynacare establishes an operational presence in Manitoba with the acquisition of Central Medical Laboratories, the province’s largest provider of community laboratory services. Founded in 1959, Central Medical Laboratories is a leader in the Manitoba laboratory services sector, with a long history of active involvement in the Manitoba medical community and a very clear focus on supporting excellent patient care.
Gamma-Dynacare is named one of Canada’s Top 100 Employers for 2009 and one of the Greater Toronto Area’s Top 75 Employers by Mediacorp Canada, Inc. The annual competition recognizes organizations that offer exceptional workplace environments for employees based on a number of factors, including work atmosphere and communication, benefits, training and skills development and community involvement.
